This evening, the second round of the Lithuanian Basketball League playoffs will begin, with Kaunas Žalgiris facing Panevėžys Lietkabelis. Both teams advanced to the semifinals in different ways: Lietkabelis won three games to advance past Utenos Uniclub Casino – Juventus, while Žalgiris won five games to defeat Klaipėdos Neptūnas. One of Lietkabelis' leaders, Džordže Gagičius, is confident – Žalgiris is a EuroLeague-level team, and their poor regular season performance does not mean Lietkabelis will have an easy time. I just knew that a crucial game was coming, Žalgiris has a EuroLeague roster and will show their quality, despite having a tough season and changing three coaches. Lietkabelis knows what it means to beat Kaunas' club. This was achieved not long ago – on April 24, when the home team won 85-67. Our main strength is that we are a united team. We do everything as a team – we win and lose together, and we show this throughout the season. How did you prepare for the Betsafe-LKL semifinals against Kaunas' team? We had only three quarterfinal games, which we won, so we had time to prepare. There was nothing special about our preparation – everything was the same as before each game. As you mentioned, you won the quarterfinals confidently. How much confidence does this give you? I wouldn't like to talk about confidence, we are preparing for the semifinals. We are in the same position as we would be against Uniclub Casino – Juventus, Virtus Bologna, or any other good team. We have beaten Žalgiris, we know what we can do, and we trust each other. In this season, we don't look at the scoreboard – we take one step at a time. Despite the fact that the Betsafe-LKL quarterfinals lasted only three games for you, how difficult was this series for Lietkabelis? First of all, I can say that Utenos team is really good, they have experienced players. They stand out in terms of size and quality in every position. Of course, it was not easy for us. We entered the quarterfinals with my mentioned mindset – we only looked at the upcoming game. I think this was our key to success. Žalgiris made it to the semifinals harder – only after five games against Neptūnas. Is this a surprise for you? Žalgiris is a good team with EuroLeague players, a big budget, but Neptūnas also has a good team and a good coach. I was not surprised, the game on the court is 5 against 5. Žalgiris has difficulties, but a meaningful game will be very interesting.
